More of The Mother Hips, Smashing Pumpkins headed to Rock Band

Every Friday, Harmonix announces the next set of tracks to be released the following week for their music game Rock Band. Yesterday Harmonix announced 3 new songs for their popular game:

“Zero” – Smashing Pumpkins

“Red Tandy” – The Mother Hips

“Time Sick Son of a Grizzly Bear” – The Mother Hips

More details after the jump.

The Mother Hips are a throwback to 1960’s psychedelic rock. With a soft sound and an emphasis on vocals, they are definitely a relaxing listen. What may surprise you is that they have been around for almost 20 years, including a one year hiatus. Active since 1991, they have put out 6 full albums and 4 EPs. They have become a cult hit so to speak, though never gaining attention from the mainstream. They are currently touring the midwest if you are looking for a show to go to. Their previous song in Rock Band was “Time We Had” off their newest album.

“Time Sick Son of a Grizzly Bear”

“Red Tandy”

While you may not have heard of the Mother Hips, I am sure most of you are at least aware of Alternative rock group Smashing Pumpkins. A mainstay of 90’s alternative rock radio, the smashing pumpkins are one of the few bands of the last 20 years to not only have large mainstream success, but also be extremely talented. After breaking up in 2000, lead singer Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin got back together in 2006, using the Smashing Pumpkins name. They recorded an album together and continue to tour. They hope to start working on new material after the current tour schedule.

Harmonix has stuck with classic Pumpkins with Rock Band so far. “Cherub Rock” was included with the game, and “Siva” was later offered as a download. Next week, “Zero” can be added to that list.
